Compassionate Care for Caregivers

Our program, Compassionate Care for Caregivers, began in January of 2002 in response to a concern raised by the Hospice community of Santa Barbara about the suffering they were observing in caregivers and a need for caregiver support services.  We provided benevolent in-home and on-site massage, yoga, acupuncture, and stress management education to family and professional caregivers of those facing life-threatening illnesses in Santa Barbara.

In California alone, it is estimated that one in four households provide care each year for one or more ill or disabled family members or friends.  Caregivers of people facing life-threatening illness find themselves in an acutely stressful role, facing physical, mental, and financial strain, which is often combined with feelings of anxiety, grief, and isolation.  As a result, these individuals frequently suffer from stress-related health problems at a time when they are in greatest need of optimum health.

Grants

As an Integrative Medical Non-Profit Organization Healing Opportunities has periodically assisted people in need to receive valuable complementary medical treatments for conditions they face. For example, in 2007 the Cheeryble Foundation gave a grant to a 7 year old patient living with a slow growing brain tumor. This child was given the grant to do work with Qi Gong Master Zhou as insurance did not cover alternative therapies and the alopathic medicine had serious complications for this young girl.
Donations

With the cost of medical equipment many patients are in need of assistance in acquiring these necessary items. Healing Opportunities accepts donations such as wheel-chairs, walkers, and assisted living equipment to give to those in need.
